Week 2: Primary and Secondary Research

Primary research
As I went around Nottingham I noticed the door designs. Every door gives a first impression of the building and it's interior. There were two distinctive door categories; Inspired by old design, Modern/ simple design and lastly designs that includes both old and modern inspirations.
Viktoria Kravchenko
She is a young artist who travels around the world and and draws door in watercolours. She as well notices the little details and brings it out with her paints making a statement that doors can also be pieces of art work. These are some of her watercolour paintings of doors.
Her work shows a lot of pattern and bright colours. Her paintings show a lot of sophisticated details with a unique colour palette for each door design. Her work also has a lot of designs that are a similar to Gothic architecture. The palette of colour used makes her paintings look surreal. The paintings also makes me think about the architect Antoni Gaudi's work which I will talk about in the secondary research.

Secondary research
My secondary research involves Watson Fothergill whom I came across in the applied learning week. He has built many buildings across Nottingham and a lot of similarities can be found. His architecture is inspired by Victorian period; Gothic and old English Vernacular style.
There is another architect who has similarity with the idea of surrealism and can lean towards Biophilic design; he is Antoni Gaudi. His work is mostly surreal and the patterns and designs are inspired by nature. His work and Viktori Kravchenko's drawing has a lot of similarities regarding the colour, pattern and use of lines. According to me, they both work with the concept of surrealism which makes a structure look futuristic.
