Introduction

In this blog I will discuss and present my refined work. As said in my previous blog, I will be focusing on the 'feeling of Utopia'.

Reflection

Next week a group critique will take place where I will be able to present my work and receive feedback on art pieces that work well and relates to the brief. I will be taking my most successful work further into cycle 4 for inspiration.

In cycle 4, I will be focusing on creating models relating to brief and taking inspiration from my own work. I will note down steps to take during cycle 4 in my upcoming blog.

Model Refinement and Development

After stating the highlights of each space that I have created, I will be choosing one to draw sketches from and present as my final outcome.

Fairy Fantasy

Concept: A rustic place between the woods for fairies to live in, which reflects autumn aesthetic.

Highlights:

  • I had worked with clay before hence using was not difficult.

  • Whereas for the smaller mushrooms I choose to use the method of quilling which I was quite familiar with.

  • To bring the rustic forest feeling into the model I used branches from wood which gives a natural texture.

Energy giving Crystals

Concept: This place generates energy using crystals, that has over powered humankind and has become an ecosystem.

Highlights:

  • Experimenting with nail polish to bring the iridescent effect was quite helpful since I learnt a new method.

  • The iridescent effect is an evidence of energy being distributed around in that space.

  • The dark painted jewels show that their energy has already been used while the lighter ones still consists some.

  • I have used the acetate paper to show that those light jewels are being protected since it has not run out of energy.

Nature is Gold

Concept: Here nature is gold i.e., nature is valued and where people live in a black and white environment, calling back simpler times.

Highlights:

  • Since the trees are colored gold I choose a plain black base to highlight the second part of the concept, black and white.

  • The small figurine being white fit right to the theme of humankind turning back to simpler times.

  • The droplets represents water dews that are forming on the ground instead of on trees which is part of the illusion.

  • Lastly the white flakes represents areas from where the trees grow; sort of like soil.

Reflection

During this week I was able to discover and explore how the different spaces that I have created might work in real life. After writing down the highlights and looking through the photographs my final outcome will be fairy fantasy. I have chosen this space to be my final outcome as it has a united and easier concept to grasp. I will also be able to make better rendered diagrams from this space and show it in my final outcome along with the model.
