Week 10: Final work and Evaluation

In this concertina sketchbook I did not use the technique of mark-making rather started by sketching the basic outline. Although I had made a rough layout it changed to making a single sided concertina sketch book (as shown below).
I have used the technique of watercolor rendering which have worked in few places and have not in some places. There are some areas where I have used metallic gold paint.
Final Concertina Sketchbook
The image above shows my final concertina sketchbook which includes perspective drawing of both the exterior and interior.
Difficulties
Time- The time was constraining due to which I was able to complete one side. And the focus on detail consumed a lot of my time.
Paper bending- I was not able to add darker tones since the paper started bending when I poured lots of water.
Unsuccessful Area-
The part circled in red looks a little out of the place. The rendering done behind the pillar using black paint looks messy due to the use of thin brush. It got harder to blend as the paper became grainy.
Using a thicker brush would have evenly spread the paint on the sheet.
Most Successful Area-
The details in this side of the concertina sketchbook was a lot accurate then I had anticipated. The details on the brick brings out the whole structure.
The organic elements added in this painting does not seem out of place. The arches leading to an entrance were easy to shade and have created an illusion of it being 3D.
This picture also has a accurate proportion and perspective.

Reflection
I was able to learn a lot of new skills. From cycle 1 I was able to learn about tone, texture, line and shape whereas in cycle 2 I was able to learn methods that helped me improve my perspective drawing.
The new technique I will take with me is grid method. This skill in particular taught me to get my scale and proportion right. I was able to learn on emphasizing a particular area by its placement on the paper.
Cycle 2 gave me the confidence to make detailed sketches with the help of watercolor rendering. I was able to learn the ability to contrast, balance and bring a sense of unity in my drawing by making concertina sketchbook. Although I will aim to learn more techniques to improve and expand my skillset.
