Secondary Research

First inspiration- monument valley (Game)

Utopian themes and ideas to derive inspiration from:

  • Pastel palette

  • Colors of pink, blue, purple and greens

  • Constrained to an area

  • Isometric

  • Geometrical

  • Use of shapes (Parallelism)

  • Relates to course (Architecture)

Second inspiration- Mid Journey (AI)

I was also introduced to Mid-Journey. An AI platform that creates images from textural descriptions.

The pictures above give away the feeling of a dreamlike world; as I typed in different combinations of keywords. I would like to create drawings like these. It made me think about other inspiration that relates to Utopia or the feeling of it.

Third inspiration- Mystic Prince (Webtoon)

  • Mystic Prince is a webtoon (comic)

  • Based on a fantasy kingdom.

  • Use of bright lively color.

  • Each color is significant to each character in the webtoon.

  • There are 20 Prince fighting for the throne and have their own power (represented by each color and pattern).

  • The design style is unique to this webtoon.

Fourth inspiration- Pablo Picasso (Artist)

  • His work depicts deconstruction and displacement of objects.

  • Use of varied color palettes.

  • Most of his pieces have a lot of curved lines.

  • Use of multiple media, patterns and texture.

Primary Research

I was able to experiment with the game monument valley. Seeing how each block come (like Lego) to create an illusion I was able to create this drawing. I tried to make it look more isometric and used golden paint to add dimension. I was able to understand how to make 3D shapes more precise.

Reflection

This week we were able to research more on our inspiration and explain about it. Doing it made me think about the artwork I will be choosing. During the 2050 Vision project, I want to also be able to find an art style that I am comfortable with.

So, the upcoming week, I will be experimenting and discovering how well I work with different types of equipment and materials. I will also try to use my inspiration and create 2 artwork for each keeping the concept of Utopia in mind.

Further Research

Introduction

This week I will be researching more on ideas and plans for my final outcome. I will also be looking at different nets for crystals that I can use and start continue experimenting and exploring.

Exploring Ideas

After I came up with 3 different mood boards I wanted to combine some of the elements to decide on designs for my model. The first idea (Fig.1) I came up with, visually gave out a Utopian feeling. The tree in between the diamond like structure would be the highlight.

Fig.1: First Idea

Most of the designs resembled a terrarium which was not my concept. Although it did relate to Utopia. Keeping a part of this design I was able to improve and make an outline of 3 different designs for each mood board. Making it into a checklist will be advantageous since I will know what to complete.

Fig.2: Model Outline

Following the Checklist

Fig.3: Mushrooms made of clay

Since there were 3 different ideas, I wanted to finish the main structures first. Starting with the 1st idea- Getting the mushrooms done where important. For this I decided to use clay as the base.

This imaginary space is a place for fairies in a fantasy world.

Fig.4: Crystals made using NET

Later on I started searching for NETS of crystals which is part of my 2nd design.

This space is inspired by the imagination of energy giving crystals that has over powered humankind in become an ecosystem.

Finally, for my 3rd idea I wanted to experiment with real branches and straws to create trees. Both the experiments were successful and gave out different feelings. The tree made out of branch related to Utopia after I painted it's edges gold. And the natural texture of the tree can be seen through the coat of paint keeping it realistic.

Lastly the third design represents a space where nature is gold hence, the golden tree and humankind still being in the black and white era representing simpler times in a simpler environment.
